After an 11-7 record last year, Providence Catholic's boys soccer is off to a fast start.
After falling to Julia Catholic in the opener, they have taken two wins on the road to start the young season off at 2-1.
“As a whole, this is a pretty solid team this year," said defender Lukas Garcia. "Definitely better than a couple of years ago. In my opinion, it's a little better than last year even. There are still some things that we have to work on, but it's the beginning of the season, and I think that we have high hopes for a good one."
This year, the Celtics have added a couple transfers and some underclassmen to the starting lineup. To this point in the season, the transition has been seamless.
“We have two freshmen that are in the rotation a good amount," said Celtics defender Jimmy Piko. "And then, three transfers, one from Cole City, two from there at Sandburg. They're good, too. They're all starting and they're all playing really well."
With the wins stacking up and the addition of some new star players, the boys soccer team is starting to generate some talk around Providence Catholic.
"People actually talk about us, and the student section has definitely shown us their support at games,” Garcia said. “Freshman and sophomore year, we weren't the greatest, but we've gotten a lot better."
